Re: Support for the prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections in California, AB2616

To whom it may concern,

Please allow me to thank the entire membership of the California Nurses Association concerning the wellbeing of California Citizens, I really appreciate it.

AB 2616, worker’s comp for healthcare staff exposed to MERSA, supported by California Nurses Association(CNA), is a step in the right direction, further highlighting the devastating impact of Healthcare Associated infections(HAI), a preventable set of diseases  according to the US Department of Health and Human Services and my advocacy will support AB 2616, MERSA is a “preventable” workplace hazard in addition to injuring an estimated 200,000 with 12,000 resulting in death annually in California according to the CDPH and the CNA.

Organized labor has to do far more in my humble opinion to educate your membership concerning every healthcare staff member taking a leadership role, up, down, 360 degrees around, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses is setting the example, CAN should follow by providing at least a link to the CDPH HAI website on your website and perhaps collaborate with the CDPH to develop a plan of action.

The C.D.P.H. is rapidly becoming the “go to” portal as a resource for the prevention of HAI combined with their current monitoring system, access to private, public and philanthropic opportunities as well as the support of the entire Governor Brown administration their Hai prevention “Best Practices” are free and covered by the Freedom of information act:

The technology to prevent HAI has been demonstrated, it actually has little to do with technology or big money, preventing HAI has actually demonstrated positive fiscal results and hopefully one of your members or a loved ones is not one of the statistical acceptable loses in the vast majority of healthcare facilities in California.

Best regards,

Michael H. Slavinski

California Nurses Association, call to action?

Liz Jacobs                                                                        April 20, 2014

California Nurses Association

Regarding: Prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections

Dear Ms. Jacobs,

Thank you and the entire California Nurses Association and all of its members for all that you do for the wellbeing of others, as a pro-bono advocate for the Prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections(HAI) in our Veteran’s Hospitals, I really a appreciate it!

Currently my advocacy is supporting the efforts underway at the California Department of Public Health(CDPH) to radically improve patient and workplace safety in our healthcare facilities here in the great state of California by educating and empowering every staff member and patient in a healthcare facility to assume a leadership role in the implementation of the best practices for the Prevention of HAI clearly stated on their state of the art website:

How can the California Nurses Association help, provide a link on your website as critical tool for your members and a way for them to help not only protect  themselves and their patients from a “preventable” set of diseases but also improve healthcare efficiencies that is having a devastating impact on middle class, the website was entirely funded by California tax payers and is covered by the freedom of information act and should be challenged worldwide for opportunities for improvement.

How would this help our Veteran’s, the radical improvement in healthcare quality and best practices will spill over into our Veteran’s Healthcare system, my only opportunity to help those who gave a lot for our country.

Please feel free to share this request with your staff and please send me contact information, if needed, to the executive who can make decisions and if needed, have them contact the Honorable Governor Brown in writing should they have the need to verify my interests.

Once again, thank you, the entire staff and membership at the California Nurses Association for all that you do for others here in the state of California!

Sincerely,

Michael H. Slavinski

"Me and my Family" & the Prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections!

Jorge Palacios                                                                                     March 6, 2014

California Department of Public Health (CDPH-CHCQ-HAI)

Re: “Me and My Family” & the Prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections!

Dear Mr. Palacios,

Once again please allow me to thank you and your staff at the California Department of Public Health for all that you do concerning patient safety, I really appreciated it.

The recent upgraded version of the California Department of Public Health’s Healthcare Associated Infection Prevention website will, in my opinion,  save not only thousands of lives here in California but millions of lives, annually, worldwide and due to the fact that the entire world has access to it and will be challenged world-wide as a standard to be improved to the level of not only elevating patient safety and healthcare efficiency but making HAI free facilities the expected rather than the unheard of.

Practical applications, our community hospital asked my wife and I to join a “Patient Partnership Council 2014”, one of the first tasks, review the patient handbook for opportunities for improvement, one option, direct patients via the “checklist” to the “Me and My Family” link on the CDPH HAI site:

The video format, way off the chart and thank you for spending the money to give your project a solid chance, I am very impressed, my next project is to advocate for organized labor in California Healthcare facilities to adapt your website as a portal and training tool for increased workplace safety and an opportunity to increase healthcare efficiencies.

From what I have seen from the “front line” is that organized labor has done its job concerning the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, now it is time to make healthcare affordable and safe for  both patients and staff.  It will require just as much focus and passion but I am impressed with the professionals I have observed on the “front line” and the passion for the task at hand is impressive on many levels.

The educated patient is becoming a reality, thank you California Department of Public Health!
